Discraced ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy was awarded $1.3 million by a Florida jury in a lawsuit that he filed against the company that published his book Personal Foul. The now-defunct company VTi Group and their owner Shawna Vercher were found liable for breach of contract. The jury also cited VTi Group and Vercher for conspiracy to commit civil theft, civil theft, intentional infliction of emotional distress and tortious interference with business relations. Donaghy stated that he is "thrilled" with the jury's decision and that "it was a long wait, but it feels terrific knowing that we prevailed and we are moving forward with the truth on our side."
Donaghy spent 11 months in federal prison in 2009 after pleaded guilty to two federal charges related to allegations that he bet on games that he officiated during 2005 through 2007 and that he made calls affecting the point spread of games.
So Donaghy got to cash in when he was refereeing fixed games and now he hits it big time for $1.3 million. The Mug is going something wrong!
