Rather than make the treacherous trip to Kansas City to see the first triple crown winner in 45 years, Commissioner Bud Selig took the easy route and called down to the clubhouse for a brief awkward chat. Miguel Cabrera seemed a little uneasy as he spoke to the old man, even ending the call with "I'm nervous now," and a giggle. I can only imagine the smoke that Selig was blowing on the other side of the line, must have been nice to hear. The AL's best slugger told the commish "thank you" eight times during the conversation, which I translate into "please let me get off the phone."
Cabrera has been a one man wrecking ball this year, as he posted league leading marks in average (.330), home runs (44) and RBI (139). The last triple crown was won by Red Sox Outfielder Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
