Cy Young Award Winners Daughter In Olympics

Brittany Viola, daughter of 1988 American League Cy Young Award winner Frank Viola, won the women's 10-meter platform dive at the U.S. Olympic trials on Sunday. With the win, Viola earned a trip to participate in this years summer games in London, England. Frank Viola is currently the pitching coach for the Savannah Sand Gnats, the New York Mets Single-A affiliate. The Mets will allow Viola time off from the Sand Gnats this summer in order to watch Brittany perform in the Olympics. In his 1988 Cy Young Award winning year for the Minnesota Twins, Viola went 24-7, with a 2.64 era. Frank also earned a World Series ring pitching for the Twins in 1987, where he made three starts in the series and went 2-1 with a 3.72 era.
