N.J. Devils Draft Stefan Matteau

One of the most memorable goals in NHL hockey history happened in 1994, when in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, New York Rangers left winger Stefan Matteau scored in the second overtime against the New Jersy Devils to advance the Rangers to the 1994 Stanley Cup Final, where they would win the Stanley Cup. For the past 18 years, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur has been serenaded with chants of "Matteau!, Matteua!, Matteau!" by the Madison Square Garden crowd, referencing the famous call made by then Rangers radio broadcaster Howie Rose.

In a very ironic twist, the New Jersey Devils drafted Stefan Matteau with the 29th pick overall, in the NHL Draft on Friday.  Matteau has the same name as his father who scored that famous goal against the Devils 18 years ago.  The junior Matteau is a 18-year-old, 6-foot-2 center.  To make things even more surreal, the Rangers had the 28th pick and passed on Matteau, and chose a defenseman named Brady Skjei one pick earlier.

How the Rangers passed on Matteau's kid is beyond me?  They owed it to Matteau and the Ranger fans to draft him. Now Ranger fans have to root against one of their most beloved players son's and watch him play for that swamp land team?  Rangers management blew this one big time!  I bet the Madison Square Garden faithful will give Matteau's kid a big hand.  "Matteau!, Matteau!, Matteau!" will never be tarnished, even if his son is a Devil.

Mets wear hockey jerseys to Canada

Before the Mets boarded the team plane to Toronto, where they will face the Blue Jays in a three-game series beginning on Friday, they got all decked out in hockey jerseys for the occasion. This isn't the first time the Mets played dress-up for a trip, earlier this season they all wore some Western Cowboy gear on the plane to Colorado.

R.A. Dickey supported his hometown Nashville Predators, while Johan Santana wore a Minnesota Wild jersey, which I'm assuming the team gave him back when he player for the Twins. And David Wright stole the show with a Mighty Ducks Goldberg jersey.

There was plenty of love shown to the Rangers, as Ike Davis, Mike Baxter and Justin Turner represented for the Blue Shirts.

Migel Batista, Frank Francisco and third-base coach Tim Teufel also wore Rangers Jerseys.

New Jersey native Andres Torres wore the Rangers' Eastern Conference Finals opponents jersey while looking like a doppelganger of The Rock.

The Western Conference Finals teams were worn by catchers Rob Johnson ('Yotes) and Mike Nickeas (Kings).

Jon Rauch wore a Syracue Bulldogs Ogie Ogilthorpe jersey from the Movie slapshot, while Kirk Nieuwenhuis sported an Avalance jersey and Jason Bay went ol' school with a Hartford Whalers jersey.

Tim Byrdak, Robert Carson and Scott Hairston went with classic Original Six looks.

Ronnie Cedeno went with the Pens, while Bobby Parnell and Dan Murphy represented for their home teams.

Brad Richards has a 2 shit performance as Rangers win

Take a close look at Brad Richards' stat line from the Rangers' 3-0 Game 1 win over the Devils on Monday night. The NHL Network has him down for 20:58 in ice time with 14 faceoff wins and 2 Shits? Why the two shits? Did he hit up Taco Bell before heading to the Garden? Sometime you gotta Live Mas, eh?

Speaking of two shits, Rangers coach John Tortorella could give two shits about the media and their questions. Check out this hilarious new mash-up of his snarky press conferences by DJ Steve Porter.

Rangers & Devils Brawl

The New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils dropped the gloves as soon as the puck was dropped in Monday nights game at Madison Square Garden.  The Rangers Stu Bickle wrecks the Devils Ryan Carter sending him off the ice bloodied.  The Rangers sent the swamp trash back across the Hudson with a 4-2 win.

Rangers & Devils Drop the Gloves Two Seconds into game

Two seconds into Tuesday nights New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils game the gloves were dropped and two seperate fights were on!  The Rangers Brandon Prust vs the Devils Eric Boulton and Mike Rupp of the Rangers against Cam Janssen of the Devils.
